Gary Rice has worn No. 11 since Alleghany High School first started playing baseball back in 1984.

Nobody will wear the number again.

Rice, who coached high school baseball for 51 seasons, 40 at the varsity level and 36 at AHS, had his jersey retired at a ceremony prior to the Alleghany-Bath County football game Friday night at Mountaineer Field.
