It was unanimous.

The Alleghany Mountaineers and Covington Cougars are returning to the track, to the field, to the court and to the course.

High school athletics are back in full force in the Highlands.

The Alleghany County School Board and Covington School Board approved the return to sports early this week, joining Bath County, who made the decision two weeks ago.

It will be a quick transition from practices to competition.

The first scheduled events will be Monday when both the Alleghany and Covington indoor track teams participate in the Class 2, Region C meet (outdoors) at Auburn High School.
