HOT SPRINGS — Auditions for the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s production of “Jack and the Beanstalk” will be held Monday, June 17 at Valley Elementary School, beginning at 10 a.m.

Those auditioning should arrive at 9:50 a.m. and plan to stay for the full two hour audition. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a rehearsal immediately following the audition.

Among the roles to be cast are Jack, Mother, Milky White, the Magic Harp, Farmers, Merchants, the Giant, Jill, Circus Perform-ers, and Wonder Beans.

Students entering first grade through 12th grade are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and to take on essential backstage responsibilities.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, props and makeup — everything it takes to mount a full-scale musical production, except the cast. That is where the local community’s children come in.

MCT Tour actor/directors will conduct rehearsals throughout the week from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be given to cast members following the audition.

All cast members must have a clear schedule for the week. Attendance is mandatory at all rehearsals.

“Jack and the Beanstalk”  will be presented on Friday, June 21, at Valley Elementary School. There will be two shows: 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre residency in Bath County is sponsored by Mountain Valley Players.

Funding is provided by the Bath County Arts Association. Housing for the tour directors will be provided by the Trotter family. This year’s production will be the 20th year for the residency in Bath County.

Missoula Children’s Theatre has been touring for more than 40 years. Annually, MCT visits nearly 1,200 communities in all 50 states, three Canadian territories and five provinces, and 16 countries. Its mission is “the development of life skills through participation in the performing arts.”

Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills, and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through participation in this unique and educational project.
