  • WASHINGTON?—  The U.S. Census Bureau is ramping up its national recruiting efforts to hire up to 500,000 temporary, part-time census takers for the 2020 Census in communities across the country to reach its goal of more than 2 million applicants.

    The positions offer competitive pay, flexible hours, paid training, and weekly paychecks. 

  • Local artist Nancy Newhard will assist people in creating Valentine cards for veterans during two sessions to be held in January and February at the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library.

    Newhard, who has overseen this program for several years at the Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center, will be available on Saturday, Jan. 11, in the W.N. (John) Rice Community Room from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
